Further extension of visas and admissibility of documents
On the 18th February 2022, the government of Portugal passed another extension to the validity of visas and also the admissibility of documents. This means that any visas that would expire after that date, or in the 15 days preceeding it, will now be extended until 30th June 2022. Similarly, documents or papers which have limited validity are also extended in the same way.

Visas and other certificates expiring after 24th Feb 2021 will be considered valid until 31st December 2021.

The new PM Boris Johnson has pledged to take the UK out of the EU on 31st October 2019 with or without a deal. The likelihood of a 'no deal' Brexit has therefore increased.

New rules for visas and residence permits from October 1
Portugal is revising its processes for visas and residence permits in a number of ways, the intention being to speed up the process and reduce bureaucracy.
New citizenship rules
In July, Portugal's updated nationality laws took effect.
These make a few changes to the rules regarding qualifying for citizenship, the documentation required and the process.
